“A” Movie Review – The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” is……exactly what to expect (and then some) from a Hollywood remake……

A disgraced reported (Daniel Craig), tries to solve a decades old murder, with the help of a young hacker (Rooney Mara)……David Fincher has recreated the world of this story perfectly from Stieg Larsson’s great novel. The only fault of this movie is timing (remember it’s everything), with the Swedish version having just come out in the last couple of years. That said, the Hollywood version is by far the superior film…. Rooney Mara is perfectly as Lisbeth Salander. She is this character in every possible sense. So much so, that she owns the character over Noomi Rapace…..Both Christopher Plummer and Stellan Skarsgård are perfectly cast as well…….The on-location setting of Sweden is beyond eerie (even peaceful, while mystery consumes all)…….This is a movie where the soundtrack was actually another character in the story…….The Hollywood version is much more graphic (and the violence is much more brutal) than the original film, please be prepared……Is this movie perfect? No. Is this movie faithful to the novel? Uhhhh, there are some liberties here (especially at the end). All that said, this is still one of the best movies of the year!

Personal experience used to write this review: 158 minutes of watching a known story unfold on screen, but still on the edge of my seat.
